Solution Overview: Building the IoT Architecture
Here we showcase a tailored case study, which describes how Lite&Fog revolutionized the vertical farming market with advanced IIoT solutions, enabling smarter modules and allowed for enhanced management of farming operations.
Enhancing Data Communication
We achieved smooth communication between the different hardware devices using tools like PiXtend and methods involving CAN and Modbus. This made the devices work together without any standstills, which is of prime importance in getting a reliable system.
Automating Responses to Environmental Changes
Node-RED was designed to automatically respond to events, such as increasing temperature or higher humidity. This tool monitors incoming data and will change actions to improve the environmental management of the system when certain rules are reached.
Implementing Real-Time Messaging
In Lite&Fog’s vertical farming case study, we changed old hardware messaging systems to MQTT to provide real-time communication. Using async-mqtt in our design will guarantee efficiency and reliability in data sharing, speeding up the system and its stability. The new idea is very important to vertical farming case studies focused on IoT integration.
Streamlining Data Collection And Analysis
We designed Telegraf to smartly acquire MQTT messages from sensors monitoring temperature, humidity, and light intensity, which are the core parameters of plant growth. This data is saved in InfluxDB, meaning that farmers can conduct historical trend analysis to monitor plant growth conditions over time.
Also, more sophisticated data, such as irrigation schedules or device configurations, is done through PostgreSQL/MongoDB to guarantee the reliable operation of the crucial farming processes.
Enhancing Data Visualization
We included Grafana to give users an obvious dashboard to obtain detailed information about parameters like soil moisture, nutrient levels, and crop environmental conditions. The charting tool allows farmers to follow plant health trends and control growing conditions based on real-time insights to facilitate decision-making at every farming stage.
Guaranteeing Data Storage Reliability
SQLite keeps track of every state of the device and caches messages just in case something is wrong in the system. It can store 500MB so that it keeps things smooth and works very well in every situation, making Lite&Fog’s IoT vertical farming stronger.
Simplifying User Interface for Operations
A React-based web interface combined Grafana dashboards with control options, allowing users to manage devices effortlessly. The user-friendly design ensures smooth interaction with all system features, maximizing operational efficiency.
